SCW funding for Cardiff cricket clubs
The Sports Council for Wales (SCW) has announced that three cricket clubs in Cardiff are to receive funding in a bid to develop grassroots cricket in the Welsh capital.
Cardiff Cricket Club, which has previously been forced to share training facilities with Glamorgan County Cricket Club, has been awarded £43,000 to provide new four-bay practice nets. Matt Phillips, chair of Cardiff Cricket Club, said: "We have four evenings per week of junior practice and we have already seen a significant increase in both the numbers participating and the progress of the young players since the construction of the nets."
Two other clubs - Lisvane Cricket Club and Creigiau Cricket Club - have also received grants through the SCW's Community Chest initiative, which aims to promote physical activity and sport across Wales. Creigiau Cricket Club has been awarded £750 to help provide specific equipment for junior cricket and increasing the number of qualified coaches at the club, while Lisvane Cricket Club has received £1,000 to establish a new Under-11 team and to run girls-only coaching sessions.
