SHOKK Zones open in Preston
Preston City Council has opened two new SHOKK facilities to encourage local children to take parts in sports activities.
The SHOKK Zones at Fulwood Leisure Centre and West View Leisure Centre features interactive equipment specifically designed to help children aged between eight and 14 years old to keep fit.
The facilities include multiplayer dance mats; Vew-do balance boards, which are similar to skate boards; an interactive target wall for throwing games and traditional equipment such as rowing machines and weights aimed at young people.
Geoff Kenyon, health and fitness manager at Fulwood, said: “Hi tech games like dance mats and Vew-do boards are something really different and should help encourage more young people to keep fit.
“The sound and video screens have to be seen to be believed. I've had a go on the dance mats and target wall and they’re addictive. Even though these activities are designed to be fun, they improve children’s fitness, balance and coordination – skills that will help them progress in a variety of sports.”
