Sheffield International Venues (SIV) is refurbishing Ponds Forge International Sports Centre over the next 10 months.

The £3m project will create a 1,250sq m (13,500sq ft) Fitness Unlimited gym featuring more than 100 stations and new fitness equipment.

The revamped facility will also include a cardio theatre; spinning room; two air-conditioned studios with sprung floors; new health suite; reception; sauna; steamroom; showers and relaxation area.

The complex will remain fully functional throughout the refurbishment process, with the current temporary gym being relocated to The Roundhouse.

Steve Brailey, SIV chief executive, said: “The reinvestment means we can meet the ever-rising expectations of customers for quality and value for money and competition from other swim and fitness providers in the city.”

Sheffield architects Race Cottam Associates designed the centre.

Architect Tim Robinson said: “We are proud to be working with a nationally renowned sporting facility and one of the most prestigious swimming venues in the world to update the designs of Faulkner Brown’s initial quality development.
