Salford Reds stadium plans on agenda
Plans for a 20,000-seat stadium for the Salford Reds rugby league club are to be submitted to Salford City Council. The new stadium is the centrepiece of a leisure and retail scheme worth £130m.
The £70m stadium has been designed by Arup Associates and would be located on a 50-acre brownfield site.
The plans include the development of a 208-bed four star hotel with conference and exhibition space and a casino, both of which would be integrated within the stadium structure.
Additional facilities may include bars, restaurants, a health club and swimming pool, as well as 230,000sq ft of retail space. The Salford Reds club has formed a development company, Red City Developments, to lead its role within the scheme.
Leader of Salford Council, John Merry said: “A new stadium is a must if Salford City Reds are to compete with the Super League elite, but it is not only about Salford making its mark on the pitch. A new development on this scale would be an iconic image of a resurgent and proud city. Details: www.salford.gov.uk
