Scotland to attract increased US tourism
The Scottish government plans to attract increased tourism to the country from the United States through a new campaign, Scotland’s US Strategy.
One of the seven objectives included in the strategy is the aim to attract at least 450,000 US visitors to Scotland per annum, in order to generate £250m in annual revenue, by 2010.
Scotland will focus its marketing activity on California, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina and Texas.
First Minister Jack McConnell said: “The US is our most important overseas tourism market. I want to see more investment, more tourists and more US citizens working, studying and living in Scotland.
“We are already working hard to promote modern Scotland in the US, particularly through the Scotland’s International Image programme. Events such as Tartan Week and Dressed to Kilt are also vitally important in this achievement. Details: www.scotland.gov.uk
