Sea Life to open Crocodile Creek ride
Weymouth Sea Life Park in Dorset, UK, will open its newest attraction, a £1m log flume ride which passes through a crocodile enclosure, to the public tomorrow (16 June 2009).
The Sea Life Park's six caimans are housed in a new sanctuary, but will be able to enter a deep pit through which the park's new Crocodile Creek ride passes.
The only barrier between riders and the caimans will be the depth of the adjacent pit.
Park manager Nicky Upton said: "There's never been anything like this before. We've managed to combine a much-needed refuge for rescued and homeless caimans with a thrilling family ride and the two go together brilliantly.
"The caimans, between four and six feet long, took to their new home immediately, and don't bat an eye-lid at the passing boats or passengers."
Switzerland-based ABC Rides supplied the ride, which was installed by Worcester-based K T Price Construction. K T Price also built the crocodile sanctuary, while the theming of the sanctuary – in the style of an ancient South American temple – was completed by Weymouth-based Nautilus. The main building contractor for the project was Weymouth-based Portwey Surfacing.
