SeaBritain 2005 and National Maritime Museum launch toolkit
As part of SeaBritain 2005, the National Maritime Museum has created an online resource to help maritime organisations develop high-quality, curriculum-relevant material for schools.
The online toolkit, called Connecting with Schools, has been produced by teachers and informal learning experts and has been specifically engineered to meet the needs of school children at Key Stage 1-5 school children.
Available online at www.seabritain2005.com from 17 September, the resource includes a searchable database which allows users to find those parts of the curriculum which are most relevant to their organisation and also has guidance on best practice in the production of learning resources and reference sections.
The head of education at the National Maritime Museum, Liz Smith, said: “Connecting with Schools is the first resource of its kind anywhere. We hope it will emphasise the relevance of the sea to the curriculum and become a valuable and well-used toolkit for all those concerned with creating learning opportunities.”
SeaBritain 2005 is a year-long series of events and activities taking place next year, based on the theme of Britain and the sea. Instigated by the National Maritime Museum, partners include VisitBritain, Official Nelson Commemorations Committee, the National Trust, the Royal Navy and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
