Sheffield listing to be reviewed
The government has agreed to review the listing of Castle House in Sheffield after a local authority appealed against the decision after raising concerns that it was not in accordance with DCMS guidelines.
Sheffield City Council (SCC) has argued that the decision to award the building Grade II-listed status, which was announced in April, could severely restrict regeneration opportunities in the city's Castlegate area. SCC cabinet member for employment, enterprise and development, Colin Ross, said: "Unfortunately the review is going to take five months to complete, taking us way into the autumn before we have a clearer idea about what we are working with in the Castlegate area.
"It is important, especially in the current climate, that Sheffield's development continues and is not stifled by unnecessary restrictions. I hope that we get the result we want, which is based on a fair and accurate assessment, that the building should not be listed."
