Showmen’s Guild promotes all the fun of the fair
The trade association for the travelling funfair industry, the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain (SGGB), has launched National Funfair Week, which will run from 23-30 August with over 150 fairs participating across the UK.
This latest initiative has been launched to counteract the threat to family-run funfair businesses posed by corporate entertainment and the increase in red tape – over 10 per cent of funfairs are lost each year and the SGGB fears that this number could well rise.
Showmen’s Guild general secretary, Keith Miller, said: “With recent headlines about theme parks and other summer attractions, we wanted to make sure people remember their local funfairs.
“They’re not only part of our heritage, but new rides that we have invested in are as good as any you will find at a static park – but with more atmosphere.”
A full list of participating events can be found on the Showmen’s Guild website. Details: www.showmensguild.co.uk
