Skatepark opens in Shropshire
The Borough of Telford & Wrekin has opened Shropshire’s largest outdoor skatepark.
Funded by Advantage West Midlands and Stirchley& Brookside Paris Council, which donated £25,000, the skatepark has skatelite-pro surfaced ramps, two 1.5m high quarter-pipes, a 1.2m high flatbank and a 1.2m spine as well as grindrails, grindboxes and seating.
It can cater for beginners through to experts in skateboarding, inlining and BMX freestyling.
The park is free to use by the community and also offers a multi-games area for football and basketball. It was built on derelict land adjacent to Brookside Primary School and future plans will see on-site coaching all year round as well as the introduction of a footpath network and CCTV cameras paid for by the New Opportunities Fund
SK8mental and Rampmental worked with young people to design the park.
Cllr Keith Austin, cabinet member for leisure and culture said: “The Borough of Telford and Wrekin is grateful to both Stirchley & Brookside Parish Council and Advantage West Midlands for funding this partnership initiative, which is helping us to create social inclusion in the town.”
