Sochi 2014 'on track' at midway mark
Preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, remain 'on track' at the midway mark, according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The IOC's coordination commission travelled to the city for a three-day trip between 12-14 October to view progress on the building of new stadiums and venues. While praising organisers' efforts in preparing for the 2014 Games, however, the commission has also highlighted areas that still need 'careful' attention, such as accommodation and workforce training.
Commission chair Jean-Claude Killy said: "As they reach the halfway point in their preparations, we can see the progress that is being made, with sporting venues rising from the ground, new sections of road being used by the public, and environmental initiatives being undertaken. "As we've said since day one, there are a number of areas that require careful monitoring by Sochi 2014 to ensure that they are delivered in the most efficient manner possible."
