Sport England highlights volunteers' role
Sport England has launched a new publication highlighting the contribution of volunteers to community sport.
Sports volunteers are at the heart of our community claims there are nearly six million volunteers in England, contributing more than 1.2bn hours, worth over £14bn.
The document highlights real life examples of volunteering best practice across the country, demonstrating the many and varied roles taken on by volunteers.
The publication is the culmination of Sport England’s work in 2005 to support the Year of the Volunteer celebrations.
Sport England’s future targets include working with national governing bodies on volunteer strategies and developing and enhancing programmes to support sports volunteers.
Sport England chief executive Roger Draper said, “whether coaching or refereeing or driving a mini bus, the benefits of volunteers’ work extends far beyond sport.”
