Sport England unveils table tennis scheme
Sport England has announced the launch of Ping! the Public – an initiative designed to boost recreational table tennis across the country with the help of £250,000 of Lottery funding.
The new Ping! the Public fund has now opened to applications until 23 April for non-profit organisations looking to provide free-to-use table tennis facilities in their local community.
It follows the success of a scheme launched in 2010 that saw 100 ping pong tables installed at locations across London, before moving onto Birmingham and Hull during summer 2011.
The original Ping! project is also being revived this summer with the help of £280,000 of funding, with Bristol and Liverpool set to benefit alongside London ahead of the 2012 Games.
Sport England chief executive Jennie Price said: "We'd like to see ping pong tables popping up everywhere - from village greens to university canteens, and city squares to community centres."
