Sport England welcomes Camelot decision
The National Lottery Commission (NLC) has reappointed Camelot as operator of the National Lottery.
Camelot was given the light to continue running the UK's National Lottery until at least 2019.
The UK operator beat Indian company Sugal & Damani to win the competition for the third Lottery operator's licence.
Anne Wright, chair of NLC, said: “Following the completion of a hard-fought competition we are pleased to have finalised terms with Camelot Group plc and to award them the third licence for the National Lottery.”
“The Commission unanimously decided that Camelot’s Bid is better able to maximise returns to good causes. Our job now is to work with them to ensure a smooth transition to the new licence whilst maximising returns over this current licence period.”
Derek Mapp, chair of Sport England, welcomed the decision.
Earlier this year, Mapp criticised government plans to redirect £675m of Lottery money to fund the 2012 Olympics.
