Sports clubs encouraged to lobby for Gift Aid
The Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) is urging sports clubs to support its campaign of securing Gift Aid for all registered Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC).
The new scheme would enable clubs to claim Gift Aid on all membership dues paid on behalf of children under the age of 18.
To do this, clubs would have to sign up as a CASC with the CCPR.
There are currently 4,648 clubs registered as CASC in the UK and CCPR estimates that clubs which are eligible for the status, but which have not registered, are losing out on a total of £60m a year in benefits.
CCPR chief executive Tim Lamb said more clubs should be taking advantage of the CASC status.
“In the run-up to 2012, there is going to be less and less money available to community sports clubs as cash originally earmarked for grassroots sports is diverted to pay for the Games,” he said.
“The CASC scheme is a great way of clawing back some of that money and putting the extra resources in the hands of those who know most about sport at a local level – the people who run our community sports clubs.” Details: www.cascinfo.co.uk
