Sportscotland to relocate to Glasgow
Scottish sports minister, Patricia Ferguson has confirmed that sportscotland – Scotland’s national sports council – is to move its headquarters to the new national indoor sports arena being constructed in the east end of Glasgow.
The move from the current base in Caledonia House in Edinburgh is to be implemented to offer better value for money, and is expected to take place in 2009.
Ferguson said the move was, “good news for the east end of Glasgow – an area with pressing social and economic needs.”
The chair of sportscotland, Julia Bracewell, said: “Now that a decision has been made, we will work closely with the Scottish Executive and our staff to discuss how a move can be implemented in the best interests of Scottish sport.”
The Scottish National Party has claimed that the move, which could cost £1m, will affect funding of sports programmes.
