SpringHealth backs LTA's primary tennis initiative
The Durham and Cleveland Lawn Tennis Association has teamed up with SpringHealth Leisure to give 600 primary school children the opportunity to be tennis stars of the future. SpringHealth, operator of six health clubs in the region, is sponsoring the regional LTA in its scheme to encourage schoolchildren as young as four to become involved in the sport through advice, practice and coaching. In school tennis tournaments will be staged with a view to inter-school and county events, enabling the LTA to pinpoint tennis' bright stars of tomorrow. President of the Durham and Cleveland LTA, Harry Thomas, says that the scheme will widen the scope of the organisation's talent scouts: Extending existing schools projects to primary schools gives tennis talent seekers like us access to lower age groups. The scheme begins next month.
