Staffordshire look to boost short break visits
Staffordshire Tourism has embarked on a food-driven nationwide marketing push to promote the county as a destination for short domestic breaks.
The Taste of Staffordshire campaign includes a booklet which offers visitors a guide to the finest food and drink available in the county, while a new competition has been launched to attract nationwide media coverage.
The Staffordshire Young Chef of Tomorrow competition will enable the winner – a local youth chef – to earn a work placement at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants in London.
The 2005 Guide to Eating Out in Staffordshire will list the winners from last year’s Staffordshire Good Food Awards as well as a number of other local food-related attractions.
Staffordshire Tourism hopes Ramsay’s high profile will attract positive media attention to the regionas well as expanding the competition in future years.
Prue Leith, patron of the Taste of Staffordshire sceme, said: “Staffordshire’s food and drink is now gaining recognition.
“Rural landscapes have given a unique style and flavour to cheeses, livestock, mineral water and beers.
“A number of new restaurants and innovative cuisines now thrive alongside traditional favourites.”
