Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has announced it is awarding honorary life membership to Stephanie Lawrence, who is retiring after nearly 40 years at the club.

Lawrence, who joined the MCC as a junior secretary in 1967, has acted as personal assistant to a succession of club secretaries, including current MCC secretary – Roger Knight.

MCC's chairman, Charles Fry said: "The MCC committee was delighted to offer honorary life membership to Steph, in recognition of her long, loyal and distinguished service to the club, and to cricket."

Lawrence said: "I am absolutely thrilled. I have had a charmed career, being part of this great cricketing institution. To remain part of it, in my retirement, makes me very happy indeed.
