Stradivarius exhibition to open in Germany
An exhibition showcasing one of the largest single collections of musical instruments made by legendary Italian craftsman Antonio Stradivari will go on show at the Wallraf das Museum in Cologne, Germany.
Called Stradivarius – Myth and Music, the installation will showcase more than 50 violins, cellos and violas . The instruments have been sourced from private collections, museums and famous musicians. Many of the instruments have never been displayed in public before.
The collection has been compiled with Wallraf’s curator, Jost Thöne, with help from Florian Leonhard, a UK-based Stradivarius expert.
As many of the instruments are still being used on a regular basis, the one-off exhibition will only be open to the public for 17 days – from 5 March to 21 March 2010.
