Stroud Valley Artspace reopens
A contemporary arts hub in Stroud, Gloucestershire, has reopened following a £1.5m revamp.
Stroud Valleys Artspace now comprises 7,000sq m (75,350sq ft) of studio and event space, equipped with training, event and workshop facilities. The facility is aimed at artists and the local community.
Funding for the project came from Arts Council England (£665,000); SWRDA Community Investment Scheme (£100,000); SWRDA Rural Renaissance Initiative (£210,000); Stroud District Council (£70,000); Gloucestershire Environmental Scheme (£50,000); Summerfield Trust (£50,000); Stroud Town Council (£26,000); English Heritage (£10,000); Austin and Pilkington Trust (£3,000) and ADAPT (£3,000).
South west executive director of Arts Council England, Nick Capaldi, said: “Stroud Valley Artspace will support artists and develop audiences. It will also contribute strongly to the vibrant atmosphere that makes Stroud such a creative place.”
London-based Tony Fretton Architects – which created Camden Arts Centre in London in 2004 – designed the venue.
The historic sandstone building and courtyard area will also be renovated pending further funding. Details: www.sva.org.uk
