Studio Fuksas unveil new images of sculptural Georgian theatre
Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas has revealed dramatic new images of his forthcoming theatre and exhibition hall in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The project, located in the capital’s Rhike Park, is in the advanced stages of construction. Two abstract soft-shaped elements connect together as a singular funnel-shaped silver structure.
The north of the building will contain the 566-capacity Musical Theatre Hall, while the south will house the Exhibition Hall. The former will evoke a periscope; soaring above the ground to offer views from the foyer towards the city’s skyline and the Kura River. In contrast, the latter will connect the building to street level.
The cost of the project is a reported €40m and the client is the Tbilisi Development Fund.
Fuksas, working through his firm Studio Fuksas, has developed a reputation for his abstract, sculptural leisure buildings and parks – including Zenuth Music Hall in Strasbourg, France; a golf resort Pula, Italy; and the forthcoming Moscow Polytechnic Museum and Educational Centre.
