Taj brand expands to South Africa
Indian Hotels Company (IHC) is set to invest around £100m (US$180m, 144m euro) to develop three Taj branded hotels in South Africa.
The five-star properties will be built in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, adding a further 550 rooms to the IHC portfolio.
IHC will manage the new hotels, which are anticipated to take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
The hotel operator has teamed up with Tata Africa to form a joint venture called Taj International to invest in the individual hotel projects with local developers.
The 200-bedroom hotel at Mandela Rhodes in Cape Town will be jointly developed by IHC and Eurocape Investments, while a memorandum of understanding has been signed with Melrose Arch Development for the Johannesburg property. Details: www.tajhotels.com
