Tartan Week 2007 events list released
The Scottish Executive has released details of its financial support for Tartan Week 2007 – an international festival held on 1–8 April in New York, US, aimed at marketing Scotland to potential US visitors.
The line-up of events will include a fourth annual Scotland Run – a 10km run through Central Park; a music platform featuring new Scottish artists and a series of literary events to promote contemporary Scottish literature.
Scottish minister for finance and public service reform Tom McCabe said: “Tartan Week is now established as the biggest international celebration of Scotland in the world. It is a fantastic opportunity for a whole range of public and private sector organisations to work together in partnership to promote Scotland in the US.
VisitScotland will operate a Scotland Village within Grand Central Station to act as a focal point for the week’s activities.
The Scottish Executive is providing financial backing for several events during Tartan Week, including £10,000 to the British Memorial Garden, which commemorate British victims of the September 11 attacks; £70,000 to promote Edinburgh Festivals; £55,000 to Scottish Museums & Scottish Screen to promote Scottish genealogy and diaspora and £20,000 to Scotland Rocks New York to provide examples of Scotland’s music scene at a contemporary music festival on 7 April.
