Sports trust Tees Active has taken over the management of Thornaby Indoor Bowls in Stockton-on-Tees, which boasts six indoor rinks and a bar.

The facility is situated adjacent to Thornaby Pavilion leisure centre which the trust already operates.

Steve Chaytor, managing director of Tees Active, said: “I am delighted that we as a company are now involved in this exiting opportunity.

“Our aim is to encourage more people to play, both at a recreational and competitive level.

“There is a thriving indoor bowls club at Thornaby and I want to keep the continuity of the club going, as Thornaby has been a venue for both national and international competitions.”

Graham Fordy, from Thornaby Bowling Club, said: “the club has been the catalyst for the development of Bowls in the region and allows us to provide plenty of opportunities for new bowlers.

“The new relationship between Thornaby Bowling Club and Tees Active will only enhance the provision of the sport in the area.”
