The George completes first phase of £12m refurbishment
The first phase of a £12m refurbishment of one of Edinburgh’s most historic hotels, The George, has been completed.
The revamp of the Grade II-listed building included updating the lobby and reception areas alongside many of the bedrooms. A new restaurant and bar called Tempus was also added to the hotel, which has been owned by luxury group Principal Hotels since June 2005.
A second phase of refurbishment – including work on more of the bedrooms – will begin next January and end in March. Throughout the work, the hotel will remain open for business.
The George is situated on George Street in the city’s New Town area. The hotel was built more than 200 years ago and many of the property’s original architectural details have been carefully retained. Details: www.principal-hotels.com
