Luxury health and wellness brand The Ranch is gearing up to open its first East Coast destination in the Hudson Valley near Tuxedo Park, New York, on 18 April.

The Ranch Hudson Valley will open amid 200 forested acres in a historic 40,000sq ft lakefront estate. It will offer three-day and four-day wellness programmes of varying intensities blending hiking, fitness classes, yoga, deep tissue massages and a plant-based diet.

Guests will be able to select the stay and intensity that suits their schedule and goals.

The new year-round destination marks the second property in The Ranch’s portfolio, joining its flagship location in Malibu, California.

“We wanted to respect and satisfy the ongoing demand from our East Coast guests to open a property closer to them and offer more options in their length of stay,” explained Alex Glasscock, co-founder and CEO of The Ranch.

“The Ranch Hudson Valley is ideally situated less than an hour from New York City, Connecticut and New Jersey. Given its idyllic location, we also hope the new space becomes the perfect destination for corporate groups looking to integrate a more health-minded approach to their offsite retreats, meetings and incentive travel programmes.”

In 2022, the operator collaborated with Italian health destination Palazzo Fiuggi to host a series of retreats. Click here to read Spa Business’ first person review and an exclusive interview with The Ranch’s co-founders.

Flexible offering

The new destination will launch with The Ranch 3.0 – a three-day programme available Monday-Thursday – and The Ranch 4.0 programme – a four-day weekend reset offered Thursday through Monday.

Both feature the brand’s signature active daily schedule of up to six hours of low-impact exercise.

Similar to Malibu, guests will be able to start their day with the choice of a two-hour or four-hour hike, allowing them to further customise their stay to suit their schedule and goals.

Afternoons in both programmes will include naptime, strength training, restorative yoga and a daily massage.

To further enhance their stay, guests will be able to access restorative amenities including an infrared sauna and Kneipp pool or add on additional services such as colonics, cryotherapy and energy healing.

“As demand continues to increase for wellness travel, The Ranch Hudson Valley allows for the opportunity to diversify our programming,” explained Glasscock.

“By offering the option of a two-hour hike, and the opportunity for shorter stays, we hope to attract those that may have previously felt apprehensive about doing the programme.

“Regardless of the programme they choose, guests will be able to jumpstart a path towards better health and achieve profound physical and mental improvements in their overall wellness.”

Healthful foodAs in Malibu, the menu will consist of nutrient-dense, organic, plant-based meals focused on detoxification and revitalisation, with much of the ingredients to be harvested from the onsite organic garden or supplied by local, organic farms.

Meals will be enjoyed together to foster deeper connections among guests.

Additionally, corporate groups will be invited to take advantage of the setting to create a private and customisable, health-centric experience for employees or clients.

Sense of place

The Ranch Hudson Valley is set on Table Rock Estate – originally built in 1902 by JP Morgan for his daughter as a wedding gift when she married the great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton.

The detailed stonework and facade were quarried onsite and constructed by Italian masons, while the interiors feature rich woods, expansive fireplaces and intricately carved plaster ceilings.

Local family-owned firm Treestone Architecture and Construction was tapped to restore and preserve the property’s extraordinary architectural features.

The estate is surrounded by the 4,000-acre Ringwood State Park, which will give guests access to hundreds of miles of trails, while the nearby 40,000-acre Harriman State Park offers an alternative for morning hiking.

Meanwhile, New York designer, Steven Gambrel, Principal of SR Gambrel oversaw interiors and design.

In this project, he oversaw the layout and design of all spaces, including the property’s 25 guest rooms, a dining room overlooking the onsite lake and gardens, a spa and the transformation of the 2,000sqs ft ballroom into the gym for afternoon fitness, yoga and meditation classes.

The property also includes a 5,000sq ft Solarium, adjacent to the estate and overlooking the grounds, with year-round exercise and pool facilities.

Additionally, there is an outdoor pool, to accompany the property’s lake, for water activities to be incorporated into fitness programming in the summer months.
