Timeline established for Vetch Field revamp
Plans for the redevelopment of the former Vetch Field stadium in Swansea, South Wales, are to move forward after the local authority revealed that it hopes to select a preferred developer for the scheme in early 2010.
Swansea Council's proposals for the site, which was home to Swansea City Football Club (SCFC) until 2005, include a public space incorporating a special feature commemorating the venue's football heritage, as well as a play area, a community centre and a housing development. The memorial, which would be built on what used to be the pitch's centre spot, would form part of the public space, while items of Vetch Field memorabilia, including turnstiles, the West Upper stand and stadium clock will be preserved.
Swansea Council's cabinet member for economic and strategic development, Gareth Sullivan, said: "Consultation with residents in the vicinity of the Vetch Field was key to the development of this masterplan and we'll continue to keep people updated now the marketing of the site is about to begin."
