Times letter from
Jennie Price
Sport England chief executive, Jennie Price, used the famous letters column of The Times this week to defend Sport England’s key strategy to increase participation in sport, “particularly for those aged 16 and above”.
Jennie pointed out: “Every year 33,000 young people are falling out of sport…” So it’s essential to find innovative ways to hold their interest. As examples she quotes “non-traditional models such as midnight basketball and mass participation charity events”.
Her letter concludes: “We need to learn lessons and … understand the consumer better. Sport England is changing … I make no apology for this”.
With a new CEO and Chairman in post, we all anticipated change at Sport England, and in national policy, and here Jennie has sent a clear signal that the change agenda is under way. We will report further to members via this weekly ezine.
