Total Fitness is entering into a company voluntary arrangement (CVA), after being hit hard by the pandemic lockdowns.

The company, which has 17 clubs in the north of England and Wales, said it was now seeking the assistance of all partners – including landlords and suppliers – to try and secure a future for the business.

The operator's Huddersfield club will close permanently, but Total Fitness said the majority of facilities would be unaffected.

A spokesperson told HCM: "The COVID-19 crisis has been hugely challenging for many industries, particularly for those that have been closed for long periods of time, such as the fitness industry.

"Total Fitness is no exception to the impact of COVID-19 and is now seeking the assistance of all partners (landlords and suppliers) to support the strong, long-term future of the business by launching a CVA.

"We are being supported in this process by our owners and also by our advisors, KPMG.

"The CVA will not have an impact on the ongoing operations for the majority of our clubs or the 12th April 2021 reopening in England or Wales.

"We’re working with the team members, partners and tenants of our Huddersfield club and will work to redeploy as many team members and personal trainers as possible to other areas of the business."

KPMG's Tracey Pye and Richard Harrison were appointed Joint Nominees of Total Fitness on 24 March.

Total Fitness has been led since June 2018 by CEO Sophie Lawler, who had achieved strong results in turning the operator around in 2019.
