Twickenham gearing up for South Stand official opening
Builders are frantically preparing for the official opening of Twickenham's new South Stand when England play New Zealand on Sunday.
A record 82,000 crowd will attend the match, which will include a fireworks spectacular and performances from Girls Aloud and G4.
The £100m stand will increase the capacity of Twickenham by 8,000, generating around £400,000 in additional revenue, meaning that Sunday will bring in takings of £4m.
Most of the seats have been installed, although some spectators will have to use temporary bars and toilets and the roof is scheduled to be put in place next year.
The stadium will become one of the Rugby Football Union's most important revenue streams. Additional elements of the South Stand project, which will be added over the next year, include a 156-room Marriott hotel, a Virgin Active health club and banqueting and conferencing facilities.
