Two die after falling from ride at Chinese theme park
Two people have been killed and three injured after an accident at an amusement park in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, China.
According to a local government official, at least three of the five visitors were thrown off Longshan Amusement Park’s “Crazy Scream” ride. According to witness reports, the machine had been switched on before riders had secured their seat-belts, leading to multiple people falling from the ride at least three metres (10ft) above the concrete floor. Local media reports state that three people fell from the ride in mid-air, while two were hit by falling objects.
On 22 April Pingyang county’s emergency management office said “problems” had been noted at the park, with a report stating: “Authorities should be summoned to implement plans and security precautions before the park opens.”
The park has since been closed and its owner is in police custody, according to local authorities. An investigation into the tragedy is underway.
