UK's first ever Gaming Academy opens
The UK’s first ever Gaming Academy has opened in Blackpool.
Based at the Blackpool and Fylde College, the academy will offer courses which cover all aspects of working in a casino, including running the tables and maintaining coin slot machines as well as making students aware of social responsibility and problem gaming.
The facility has been built with funding from the European Regional Development Fund and the Learning and Skills Council.
All courses at the academy have been accredited by two examining bodies – Edexel and City and Guilds.
Academy manager, Colleen McLaughlin, said: “Students will be working in a real life casino environment, covering every function from the start of play to the close of the business.”
The academy facilities include a training casino ,seminar rooms and coin slot workshops.
Gala Casinos has assigned its entire junior management to one of the college’s BETEC Level Three Casino Operations course.
