UNWTO International Congress on Tourism & Pilgrimages kicks off in Spain next week
The first ever International Congress on Tourism & Pilgrimages – co-organised by the World Tourism Organisation, Ministry of Industry Energy and Tourism of Spain and the Regional Government of Galicia – is set to take place in Parador de Santiago de Compostela, Spain, starting 17 September.
The three-day conference aims to bring delegates from around the world together to highlight the importance for tourism of the historical and cultural legacy of pilgrimages and spiritual routes, focusing on both their religious and secular aspects.
The congress will look at the role tourism policies and strategies play in the preservation and management of heritage assets along paths and routes. It will also underline the positive contribution of pilgrimages to the sustainable and responsible growth of tourism as well as the contribution of tourism towards religious international understanding.
