Unrest forces Bahrain Grand Prix cancellation
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) has confirmed that it will not host the first Formula One Grand Prix of the 2011 season due to political unrest.
The decision comes after His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa called for a new 'national dialogue' to resolve the current situation in Bahrain. HRH Prince Salman said: "We felt it was important for the country to focus on immediate issues of national interest and leave the hosting of Bahrain's Formula One race to a later date."
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said: "It is sad that Bahrain has had to withdraw from the race, we wish the whole nation well as they begin to heal their country." No decision has yet been made with regards to rescheduling the Bahrain Grand Prix, which had been due to take place between 11-13 March.
