Vintage Inns uncorks conservation initiative at Eden Project
Vintage Inns have unveiled the results of a brand-wide project to collect used wine works after joining an RSPB initiative.
The Six Continents Retail brand joined with the RSPB to raise awareness of the decline of the Portuguese cork orchards and the subsequent effect on indigenous bird populations - specifically eagles.
Vintage Inns ran their collection for 12 weeks and contributed an estimated 2000kg of cork towards the sculpture of a twelve-foot eagle by artist Robert Bradford.
The eagle was unveiled last week at The Eden Project in Cornwall where it will be on permanent display.
Simon Isaac, brand manager of Vintage Inns, said the company knew it was able to contribute a significant amount of cork to the RSPB's appeal: 'With nearly 200 inns taking part in the collection and a broad range of wines on sale at each one we soon reached our two ton target.'
Since the cork project, Vintage Inns has also taken part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. www.vintageinns.com
