VisitBritain calls for more funding
VisitBritain has called for increased government investment in the country’s visitor economy in order to realise the potential of the £2.1bn benefit to tourism that could arise from the London 2012 Olympics.
Chair Christopher Rodrigues said: “We’ve got the vision to leverage the 2012 Olympic Games over a decade of opportunity and help transform Britain’s £85bn visitor economy.
“But we have reached the point where there is no slack. Without increased funding we will not be able to deliver the work required to ensure an Olympic legacy.”
The tourism agency made the call ahead of the government’s Comprehensive Spending Review, which decides the organisation’s budget from 2008/09 to 2010/11 and will be published tomorrow afternoon (9 October).
