VisitScotland launches new media unit
The Scottish Executive has awarded £550,000 to VisitScotland so that it can establish a new media unit to attract more IT sophisticated customers.
The unit will gather a library of digital media content covering all aspects of Scottish tourism; investigate setting up a content management service to feed an online TV channel promoting Scotland; and roll out the use of hand held devices to capture consumer feedback.
The new media department will also consider developing a tourism-related retail goods site and may set up an online facility where consumers can upload comments on their holiday.
Scottish tourism minister Patricia Ferguson said: “Visitors are increasingly finding new ways to access information about holiday destinations. We must keep ahead of the competition and use increasingly sophisticated methods to attract visitors.”
