Walkers welcomed back to the countryside
English Heritage has launched a range of walking guides designed to encourage walkers back to the English countryside. Heritage Hikes describe interesting and picturesque walks around the country.
The laminated, waterproof cards feature easy to follow, circular routes covering between six and eight miles. The different cards will feature walks around a variety of English Heritage properties taking in coastline, parkland, woodland, moorland and mountains.
'Initiatives like these walking guides will encourage people to go back to the countryside and bring much-needed visitors and business to the areas that surround these fascinating historic properties,' said English Heritage's acting chief executive, Carole Souter.
As part of an initial Heritage Hikes promotion, anyone buying a guide before June 30 receives a set of vouchers giving them two for one entry to any of the sites featured that are not free.
The first two guides available from the series are for the South West and Yorkshire. Guides cost £5.95, and are available on +44 (0)1761 452 966.
