Welsh instructor of the year named
Cathy Lawford from Hay-on-Wye has been named Instructor of the Year by Fitness Wales at its recent Spring Fitness Spectacular, held at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.
Now in its second year of operation, this award recognises industry professionals throughout Wales who have made outstanding contributions to exercise and fitness provision and Lawford stood out as the main contender this year.
An exercise instructor for the past eight years, Lawford opened her Gym and Tonic health club in Hay-on-Wye in 2002 with finance obtained from the sale of her canal narrowboat, together with a modest government grant.
The club now has 95 local members of all ages and abilities who benefit from Lawford’s progressive fitness initiatives.
Fitness Wales director Mary Sheppard congratulated Lawford on her Weight and See fitness programme, which combines exercise with interactive sessions on healthy lifestyles and for instigating the Hay Hotfooters running club.
