Welsh woodlands to inspire teaching
A variety of outdoor events have been set up by the Welsh Assembly Government at woodlands in Bridgend and Wrexham in a bid to enhance the development of children through outdoor learning.
The events will support the government's play-led curriculum for under seven-year-olds, the Foundation Phase, and will look to encourage teachers, learning assistants and childcare workers to increase learning opportunities outside of the classroom. Events will be designed to show those involved in the early years of a child's education that working outside can help to enhance development through making the most of outdoor spaces in terms of learning and play.
Theatr Iolo and Learning through Landscapes Cymru will be involved in running some of the outdoor learning workshops, and will re-enact the Words in the Woods play as part of the scheduled activities. Jane Hutt, the Assembly government's education minister, said: "The outdoors provided opportunities for children to exercise, play creatively, make friends, learn through doing and get in touch with the natural world.
"We hope that these events will motivate, enthuse and encourage teachers and all those who work in early years to use the outdoors creatively and as an environment where children can learn."
