A recent report by consultancy firm Sport Concepts has said that Wembley Stadium could be converted to host the 2012 London Olympics for £30m.
Sports Concept – whose director is Michael Lischer, who was an advisor on the Commonwealth Games – said in a report for the FA that a 20ft-thick concrete platform could be positioned over the football pitch at a cost of £30m.
The news comes as fears about the Olympic Stadium’s rising costs – which may end up being double the £280m originally outlined for the 80,000-seat venue – have pressured organisers into exploring other options.
The conversion would apparently take 11 weeks to implement and six weeks to take apart.
