Wetherspoon managers complete bespoke diploma
Six employees with pub company Wetherspoon have become the first to graduate with an advanced diploma in leisure retail management from Nottingham Trent University – on a course designed by Wetherspoon in conjunction with the university.
The qualification was aimed at improving people and business management skills and modules included leadership and motivation, profitable drinks retailing, business development, financial awareness, managing legally and unlocking people potential.
Matthew Blain, Wetherspoon’s training manager and one of the six graduates, said: “The company is committed to offering its staff the opportunity to study and develop their skills at the highest level.
“The aim of the diploma programme is to develop the ‘thinking manager’, someone who is able to step back and reflect on the issues they have learnt, as well as using their pub experience in order to find better and more effective ways of managing in the future.”
There are currently 90 area and pub managers undertaking the diploma.
