Wigan gains IFI accreditation
On 2 September, the Robin Park Sports Centre in Wigan will be unveiled as an official Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) facility by IFI patron and former boxer Michael Watson.
The nearby Hindley Pool and Sports Centre has also been recenlty updated to improve disabled facilities.
More than £410,000 has been spent on the two facilities as part of a continual improvement programme.
Work included the transformation of the cricket hall at Robin Park into a multi-games hall; improving access to the park; a £110,000 investment at Hindley Pool for swimmers with disabilities plus a further £210,000 has been spent on fitness equipment at Hindley and training for staff on safe and appropriate exercise programmes.
Regional manager for the English Federation of Disability Sports, Darren Birch, said: “The huge improvements made at Robin Park and Hindley mean that more disabled users across the borough will have the opportunity to keep themselves fit and healthy.”
