Two Worcester sports centres have been given 'highly commended' awards by Quest – the industry benchmark for evaluating good practice in the management of sports centres.

The Nunnery Wood Sports Complex And St John's Sports Centre, which are managed by Worcester City Council, scored 79 per cent and 77 per cent respectively, having improved from a 75 per cent rating at their last assessment.

The Quest report stated that the facilities are "operated by a skilled, appropriately qualified and stable workforce with an open management style and respect for the abilities and contribution of the workforce."

General manager, Alan New said he was pleased with the report: "Everyone at both sites has worked extremely hard to provide good facilities, an extensive range of activities and exceptional customer care.

“This score and result is reflective of the continual quality of service we have come to expect from the team."

The centres were awarded Investors In People (IIP) status earlier this year. IIP recognises the importance placed by employers on their workforce.

Loughborough University recently scored 68 per cent in its first ever Quest assessment. Chris Earle, the university's Director of Sport, said: "We are delighted with the outcome of our first inspection and the score reflects all of the hard work, time and commitment the staff have invested into the scheme."
