Work selected for government art exhibition
A number of public, political and diplomatic figures have helped select work that will form part of the first public exhibition of the government's art collection.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Lord Mandelson and the UK ambassador to Moscow have each selected pieces to go on display at Whitechapel Gallery in June 2011. The collection comprises more than 13,500 works dating back to the 16th century, which are displayed in embassies and diplomatic building worldwide.
Culture minister Ed Vaizey said: "The Government Art Collection is a unique cultural resource that has built up a collection that holds its own on the world art stage. "This is the first time that some of the many highlights have been brought together in one place for the benefit of the wider public."
