Work starts on £170,000 Colinton Mains Park revamp
Work on the £168,000 upgrade of the playing fields at Colinton Mains Park in Edinburgh has begun.
The football pitches are being levelled and a new drainage system is being installed. This first stage of the scheme – which also includes the creation of 800m of footpaths – is expected to be completed by the end of the month and further work on the playing surfaces will take place once the ground has settled in the spring.
Bob Cairns, executive member for the environment at Edinburgh City Council, said: “This upgrade will not only see improvements for the football teams that use the pitches but, as part of a £5.6m investment in parks across the city, will provide a better environment for everyone who uses and enjoys the park.”
The football teams who regularly used the pitches have temporarily relocated to nearby facilities, but should be back at Colinton Mains Park for the start of the 2007/08 season. Details: www.edinburgh.gov.uk
