Work starts on £3.4m Rotherham youth centre
Work is now underway on the construction of a £3.4m flagship youth centre in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, as part of the national Myplace programme.
Chantry YMCA is leading the project with the support of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) and other local organisations. Work is due for completion by October. Facilities at the new youth hub will comprise a graffiti art room; an IT suite; a cinema; and a performance hall; as well as a rooftop café.
Chantry YMCA's David Sargent said: "The facility is a very real expression of what young people have described as their wish for dedicated facilities in Rotherham." RMBC's cabinet member for community development, equality and young people's issues, Mahroof Hussain, added: "This project is the flagship for the future of integrated services for young people in Rotherham."
