Preventative measures in the structure of Seattle's Art Museum were recognised last week after the city's worst earthquake in 52 years. Of the thousands of artefacts on display, the earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale only damaged two ceramic artworks from Chinese Tang dynasty. Neither of the Seattle's other two museums suffered any damage to structure or artefacts. A senior director at the museum, Gail Joice, commented that the museum's designers should be praised for their expertise in seismic mitigation: I am very proud that our seismic protection efforts for the thousands of works of art in the galleries and in storage proved effective.
