YMCAfit retains IFI contract

YMCA Fitness Industry Training (YMCA®fit) has been appointed official training provider for the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) Level 2 Course.

Under the terms of the agreement, YMCAfit will deliver a four-day training course, Exercise and Fitness for disabled People, at each of the 150 IFI-accredited centres throughout England over the next two years.

The course is suitable for qualified instructors at Level 2 and includes knowledge of the major impairments; physical, hearing, visual and learning disabilities; along with related medical conditions, medication and its effects on exercise.

Also covered are physical and psychological barriers and how to overcome them, as well as programme design and emphasis on how to adapt physical activity using equipment.

The course format is two, two-day sessions, followed by an assessment day which includes practical teaching skills, case studies and all related underpinning knowledge. Successful completion leads to a CYQ Advanced Instructor (Adapted Physical Activity) Certificate and automatic access to the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 3.
